Kano police recover blood stained machete, weapons, arrest killers of mother six children

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three people in connection with the killing of a woman and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday by the police spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation ordered by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and supervised by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
The special operation took place between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 p.m. on January 18, 2026.
Those arrested include Umar Auwalu, 23, from Sabuwar Gandu; Isyaku Yakubu, popularly known as “Chebe,” 40, from Sagagagi; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also called “Wawo,” 21, from Sabon Gida Sharada.
Police revealed that Umar Auwalu, who is related to the victims, confessed to leading the attack. Investigations also suggest the suspects may be involved in other criminal activities across Kano State.
Items recovered from them include blood-stained materials, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, suspected drugs, cash, and other dangerous weapons. The police said investigations are ongoing.
The command commended the officers involved in the operation and thanked members of the public for their cooperation. It also assured residents that all those responsible would be charged to court.
