The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has expressed readiness to welcome the speculated return of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party but insists that he must publicly apologize for past derogatory remarks against party leaders.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kano on Friday, the state party chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, confirmed that the APC is open to receiving defectors, including the former NNPP faction leader, Kwankwaso.

“We have taken note of the growing speculation about Senator Kwankwaso’s possible return to the APC. This is a welcome development, especially considering that APC remains his last viable political platform after burning bridges with other parties,” Abbas said.

He emphasized that the APC, under its Renewed Hope Agenda, is committed to accommodating new members from all political backgrounds. The party has instructed its ward chapters to open registration for incoming members regardless of their previous affiliations.

However, Abbas issued a firm condition: “Anyone who previously made offensive comments about our leaders, including President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, must publicly apologize. This is essential for building mutual respect and forging ahead as a united party.”

The chairman also reassured current APC officeholders at all levels that their positions remain secure and that new members will not receive preferential treatment over loyal party members.

He warned that some defectors may be driven by desperation after losing political relevance elsewhere, describing such individuals as “political lepers” looking for survival within the APC.

Abbas concluded with a strong statement against cult-like political groupings, saying the APC would not tolerate factions masquerading as political movements within the party.

“This party stands for unity, respect, and discipline. Anyone joining must do so in good faith and with a willingness to uphold our values,” he said.
