The Kaduna State Government has announced that its Free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mass Transit Programme will now run without a terminal date, citing its significant and far-reaching benefits to residents across the state.

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, who said Governor Uba Sani approved the decision after reviewing a comprehensive performance evaluation of the scheme covering July to November 2025.

According to the assessment, the initiative powered by 100 CNG buses and supported by 200 designated bus stops has conveyed over 1.4 million commuters within a five-month period. The report also indicated that the programme has helped Kaduna families save an estimated ₦1.39 billion in transportation expenses.

Maiyaki stressed that the figures go beyond statistics, noting that the savings have translated into improved household welfare, sustained small businesses, and easier access to education and daily livelihoods for thousands of residents.

He added that the free transport service currently benefits more than 18,000 people daily, making it one of the most effective social intervention programmes implemented by the state government.

The Commissioner further revealed that Governor Uba Sani was deeply influenced by firsthand feedback from beneficiaries during recent on-the-ground assessments, prompting him to order the scheme’s continuation with no definite end date.

Quoting the governor, Maiyaki said the administration remains guided by the principle that governance should ease the daily struggles of ordinary citizens, hence the decision to sustain the programme indefinitely.

He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to further strengthen and expand affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly public transportation as part of its broader commitment to human capital development and inclusive growth in Kaduna State.
