Students Set Principal’s House Ablaze Over Unregistered NECO Exams

Tension erupted in Ginde Saghev Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, as enraged students of Gyutiev Model School reportedly set ablaze the house of their principal, Mr. Isaac Yina.

According to eyewitnesses, the students took to violent protest after discovering that their National Examination Council (NECO) registration was not processed—despite each of them allegedly paying ₦85,000. Reports indicate that approximately 178 students were affected by the botched registration, sparking fury and feelings of betrayal.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning when the students, having waited for their exam details in vain, realized they were not on the NECO candidates’ list. Allegedly, all attempts to reach the principal for answers were ignored, further escalating tensions.

In a fit of anger and frustration, the students marched to Mr. Yina’s residence and set it ablaze. Property worth millions was reportedly destroyed in the inferno. As of the time of this report, Mr. Yina’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Local authorities and community leaders have intervened to restore calm, while police investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the arson and to uncover what truly happened with the missing funds and unregistered exams.

Parents and education advocates have condemned the incident, calling both for accountability from the school management and for restraint from the students, stressing that violence is not the solution.
