BREAKING: BREAKING: Court Halts ADC Congresses in Adamawa Amid Deepening Party Crisis

Kindly share this story

A court has ordered the immediate suspension of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) state congresses in Adamawa, which were scheduled to begin today, following a suit filed by factional state chairman, Shehu Yohanna. The ruling marks a significant escalation in the internal crisis rocking the party ahead of key political activities in the state.

The ADC in Adamawa has been embroiled in a prolonged leadership dispute, with at least three rival factions vying for control of the party structure. One bloc is aligned with former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who is reportedly backing former Governor Jibrilla Bindow for a potential governorship bid. Another faction is loyal to Senator Aisha Binani, while the third is led by Yohanna, who previously served as the party’s state chairman before ADC’s adoption as a coalition platform.

Adding to the turmoil, Senator Ishaku Abbo, initially aligned with Babachir Lawal’s camp, has announced his boycott of the congresses. Abbo accused party organizers of failing to engage in meaningful negotiations with Aisha Binani’s faction regarding the control and structure of the party in the state.

Similarly, Aisha Binani, who is widely believed to be preparing a governorship bid under the ADC, has also rejected the legitimacy of the congresses organized by the Babachir Lawal-led faction, further deepening divisions within the party.

The court’s intervention now throws the ADC’s internal processes into uncertainty, raising questions about the party’s readiness and unity ahead of upcoming electoral contests in Adamawa State.
