Kindly share this story

An eight-month pregnant housewife, Halima Yusuf, has approached an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, seeking legal confirmation of her divorce from her husband over allegations of neglect and physical abuse.
According to the petitioner, the marriage was contracted under Islamic law, but the relationship has deteriorated to the point where she can no longer continue with it.
Halima told the court that her husband allegedly failed to fulfill his responsibilities as a husband, claiming he neither provided adequate food nor catered for her welfare and healthcare needs during the marriage. She also accused him of physically assaulting her on several occasions.
The expectant mother informed the court that she is currently eight months pregnant and has been forced to live with her parents in Mararaba due to the challenges she has faced in the marriage.
In her petition, she asked the court to officially confirm the divorce and compel her husband to take responsibility for the pregnancy and the welfare of the unborn child.
Following her submission, the presiding judge, Mohammed Yakubu, adjourned the matter until June 11, 2026, for further hearing.
The case has sparked conversations about marital responsibilities, especially towards pregnant women, and the importance of providing emotional, financial, and medical support during pregnancy.
