Kogi Secondary School Students Beat Teacher to Coma, Police Intervene

A disturbing incident has unfolded at Ebira Muslim Community College, Okengwe (EMCCO), in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, where students allegedly assaulted their Physics teacher, Mr. Muktar Salihu, leaving him in a coma.

The students, reportedly in SS2 and allegedly operating as a cult group, were said to have humiliated and attacked the teacher as part of a scheme to assert control over the school’s administration.

The group’s alleged leader, Abdulbatin, is reported to be the son of the Opokitipo of Esusu clan in Okengwe district.

Mr. Salihu, who lost consciousness during the attack, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

In response to the incident, a fellow teacher has called for urgent intervention:

“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, the security agencies, and other relevant authorities to urgently swing into action with a view to bring the perpetrators to book, forestall future occurrences, and instill discipline in our schools and colleges,” the teacher stated.

The District Police Officer (DPO) in the area has stepped into the situation, directing the traditional ruler to ensure his son, Abdulbatin, is produced for questioning without fail.

Authorities are now investigating the matter to ensure justice is served and restore order in the school.
