Nestlé, FG launch national water quality advocacy campaign

Nestlé Nigeria has teamed up with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to roll out a National Water Quality Advocacy Campaign aimed at improving awareness, education, and collaborative action on water safety and sustainable water practices across the country.
The partnership was announced in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation by Nestlé and representatives of the Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (OPS-WASH).
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Utsev, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a vital step in addressing public health challenges such as cholera and diarrhoea, while also supporting flood mitigation and climate resilience efforts.
“We are committed to working with Nestlé Nigeria to enhance water quality nationwide. This collaboration aligns with our mission to ensure universal access to safe water and promote the well-being of all Nigerians,” Utsev stated.
Speaking on behalf of Nestlé Nigeria, Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainability Lead, highlighted the urgency of the campaign, noting that millions of Nigerians still rely on unsafe water sources.
“Our campaign goes beyond awareness; it’s about driving behaviour change and building partnerships that lead to sustainable impact. We are working with communities, industries, and institutions to close knowledge gaps, improve water safety, and support national health outcomes,” Uwadoka said.
She noted that the campaign is anchored on three strategic pillars: raising awareness, engaging stakeholders, and promoting long-term sustainable action.
Further elaborating on the initiative’s community engagement, Dr. Nicholas Igwe, National Coordinator of OPS-WASH, revealed that 16 communities in the Abaji Area Council of the FCT and eight in Agbara, Ogun State, will benefit from water quality interventions. Additionally, two agricultural communities will receive water harvesting systems to boost irrigation and food production.
The meeting drew participation from senior officials of the Ministry and OPS-WASH, underscoring a strong cross-sector commitment to accelerating access to safe, clean water for all Nigerians.
