Police Neutralise Notorious Kidnapper in Rivers State

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a notorious kidnapper and murder suspect, David Uzoma Kamalu, also known as ‘M-Kaze,’ during a tactical raid on his hideout in Rumuodogu 1 Community, Emohua Local Government Area.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Kamalu was killed in a shootout with police operatives during a pre-dawn operation conducted by officers from the Rumuji Division.

The operation, carried out on May 25, 2025, followed several days of intelligence gathering aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the area.

“During the operation, the police came under heavy fire from Kamalu and his gang.

A gun battle ensued, during which Kamalu was neutralised. Several gang members escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement read.

Kamalu, a long-standing target of security agencies, had been on the wanted list for his alleged involvement in multiple high-profile crimes, including the brutal killing and beheading of a local security operative, Mr. Alete, popularly known as ‘Hunter Commander,’ in January 2025.

He was also accused of leading a kidnapping syndicate responsible for armed robberies and abductions along the East-West Road.

A search of the hideout yielded several incriminating items, including a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, and local charms believed to be used for protection and intimidation.

Describing Kamalu as a “high-value target,” the police noted that a bounty had previously been placed on his head by the former Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area due to the threat he posed to public safety.

Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, praised the success of the operation and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to protect lives and property in the state.

He assured the public that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members.

Meanwhile, SP Iringe-Koko urged residents to report any suspicious individuals, particularly those with gunshot wounds, to the nearest police station. She added that all recovered items have been documented as evidence for further investigation and possible prosecution.
