Insecurity: Bwari Area council Chairman, John Gabaya orders arrest of Islamic mallam over Kuchibuyi bomb explosion

Chairman of the Bwari Area Council, John Gabaya, has confirmed the death of one person, after an explosion hits an Islamiyyah school in Kuchibuyi Community of Bwari Area Council earlier on Monday.

FCNN recalled that a student had died during an explosion that happened around noon on Monday at the school in the area.

A security source who don’t want his name mentioned stated that:, “The dead student, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, bore the substance suspected to be IED while it exploded and injured the other students, thereby causing pandemonium in the centre.”

The Bwari area council chairman while confirming the incident to newsmen via phone conversation stated that one person died while three persons, including a seller of a local snack, were injured as a result of the explosion.

“At the scene there, one person died. That one was confirmed dead (sic). The three other persons were rushed to the hospital. There were four; then there was one other girl who was selling awara (local snack). There is something they eat, this almajiri food. So in the process of doing that, the thing exploded, and she was close, so it wounded her also. They took the three of them to the hospital,” he said.

The Chairman added that he had ordered the Divisional Police Officer, to interrogate a certain Mallam, after some children whom he brought from Katsina to the school a few days before were also affected by the explosion.

“The Mallam that said he was the one that brought them, I asked the DPO to take him immediately, so they interrogated him,” Gabaya said.

The chairman and Head of Public Affairs for the FCT Emergency Management Department, Nkechi Isa, disclosed to newsmen that the Department had sent Search and Rescue teams to the scene of the incident for assessment and reports on the incident.
