Police arrest two suspected cable thieves in Akwa Ibom

Two suspected cable thieves has been arrested by Akwa Ibom state Police Command.

The command also recovered stolen transformer and other electrical accessories in Ikot Akai, Ukanafun local government area of the state.

CP Baba Mohammed Azare, the state commissioner of Police while parading the suspects during his maiden press briefing in Uyo on Monday said the suspects known as Prosper Brownson Jim and Uduak Sunday Benson allegedly stole the transformer and cables belonging to Sure Foundation Polytechnic in Ukanafun.

He also disclosed that other items allegedly stolen by the suspected thieves include Transformer Oil and Armoured cables while other items suspected to be juju were recovered from them .

Azare further explained that during his maiden visit to Pastor Umo Eno , the governor complained of vandals destroying electricity installations in rural communities adding that he was motivated to step up security dragnet across the state .

” We have therefore stepped up our efforts to nip the crime and arrest the perpetrators of this act. To this note we have arrested one Prosper Brownson Jim ‘m’ and one Uduak Sunday Benson ‘m’ for vandalization of a transformer belonging to Sure Foundation Polytechnic situated at Ikot Atai, Ukanafun Local Government.

“Transformer Oil valued at about N800, 000.00 (eight hundred thousand naira) was drained, and armored cables valued at about N3.5m (Three million five hundred thousand naira) were stolen. The command recovered”. He said
