2027: We Will Stand By Fubara – APC Declares

Kindly share this story

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its commitment to standing by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and other governors elected on the platform of the ruling party.

In an interview with The Punch, the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, said the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) is mandated to support its governors and reinforce the party’s structures nationwide. He made this known while responding to comments credited to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who reportedly threatened to block Governor Fubara’s second-term ambition.

Basiru commended the Fubara-led administration for its performance, noting that the governor is actively executing and commissioning projects that positively impact residents of the state.

According to him, Fubara deserves the party’s backing as an APC governor. He stressed that internal political disagreements should not distract from the party’s responsibility to support its elected officials. Basiru added that although not everyone may be pleased with a leader’s actions, political power ultimately comes from God and the will of the people.

He further noted that Governor Fubara has been entrusted with responsibilities within the party at the national level, having been appointed to serve on an important committee by President Bola Tinubu. This, he said, further underscores the party’s recognition of the governor.

Basiru also emphasized that the APC remains obligated to support all its members in public office, stating that as a party official, he participates in every activity involving the APC and is committed to strengthening the party.

Reacting to remarks made by the APC’s National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Victor Giadom, Basiru criticized the use of derogatory language against any APC governor. He described it as inappropriate for a senior party official to refer to a sitting governor from the same party in a disrespectful manner, regardless of personal or political loyalties, adding that such conduct should not be encouraged.
