The Action Peoples Party (APP) has approached the Federal High Court in Osogbo to challenge the eligibility of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, over alleged inconsistencies in his submitted documents.
In the suit, which also lists the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC as defendants, the APP—through its representative, Abdulateef R.—asked the court to scrutinize whether Oyebamiji’s documentation complies with constitutional requirements for participation in the upcoming election. The originating summons, dated March 16, specifically seeks a legal interpretation of his nomination under Section 182(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The APP is urging the court to invalidate INEC’s publication of Oyebamiji as the APC candidate for the August 15, 2026 governorship poll. It further requested an order barring INEC from recognizing him as a candidate and compelling the electoral body to remove his name from the official list of contenders.
Responding to the lawsuit, the APC in Osun dismissed the allegations as unfounded and politically driven. Party spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, described the case as frivolous, maintaining that Oyebamiji meets all legal requirements to contest the election. He added that the suit is a distraction tactic by opponents unsettled by the candidate’s growing strength, insisting that it would not hinder the APC’s participation in the election.
