Atiku Will Clinch ADC Ticket If He Runs – LND Convener Predicts, Rules Out Consensus Deal”

Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats, has expressed confidence that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would emerge victorious in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries if he decides to contest.
Speaking during an appearance on AIT’s Focus Nigeria on Friday, Ardo argued that the possibility of the party adopting a consensus candidate appears unlikely. He explained that such an arrangement would require key aspirants, including Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, to withdraw from the race—an outcome he considers difficult to achieve.
Ardo noted that while Peter Obi might personally be open to stepping aside, his strong support base, particularly the Obidient Movement, would resist such a move. On the other hand, he suggested that although Atiku’s supporters might accept a consensus arrangement, the former vice president himself is unlikely to step down.
According to him, if the race proceeds to a full primary whether through direct voting or delegates Atiku stands a clear advantage. Ardo maintained that under any primary format, Atiku would secure the party’s ticket decisively.
