IBBUL Chancellor Reaffirms Commitment to Varsity Growth,Development

The Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Farouk Bahago, has pledged continued support and advocacy for the University’s progress. He commended the University’s Governing Council for their dedication to advancing the institution.
The Chancellor made this commitment when he received members of the newly inaugurated sixth Governing Council, led by its Chairman, Professor Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah, at his palace. The visit was aimed at fostering a cordial relationship and seeking royal blessings for the Council’s leadership.
While congratulating the new Council members and the Vice Chancellor on their appointments, Alhaji Bahago, who is also the Emir of Minna, urged them to uphold the values of integrity, excellence, and inclusivity in steering the affairs of the University.
He acknowledged the key challenges facing the institution, particularly issues surrounding funding, the completion of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) project, the Bida Basin Oil Exploration initiative, and the urgent need to complete facilities at the College of Medical Sciences.
His Royal Highness emphasized the necessity of forging strong partnerships with government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and other relevant bodies to secure additional funding for the University’s expansion. He assured the Council of his commitment to engaging the Visitor, His Excellency, Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago, and other authorities to ensure the institution receives the necessary support.
The Chancellor encouraged the new Council and the Vice Chancellor to lead with dedication and unity, emphasizing that their leadership would be instrumental in driving the University’s progress. He expressed confidence in their ability to navigate the institution’s challenges and assured them of his unwavering support.
Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah, expressed gratitude to both the Visitor and the Chancellor for entrusting them with the responsibility of guiding the University’s affairs. He reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to advancing the University’s vision and mission.

Introducing the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Suleiman, and other Council members, Professor Abdullah sought the Chancellor’s royal blessings as they embark on their duties.
He highlighted critical challenges affecting the institution’s growth, including inadequate funding, the stalled NIMASA project, and the need to revitalize the Bida Basin Oil Exploration initiative. He also stressed the urgency of completing the University Teaching Hospital and ensuring proper hostel accommodations for medical students before their final year to enhance their learning environment.
Additionally, the Pro-Chancellor called for infrastructural development, increased research funding, and improved staff welfare to elevate IBBUL’s status as a center of academic excellence.
