Wike to Tinubu: “I Made You President”
Political tension appears to be brewing within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following a strongly worded warning allegedly issued by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement making rounds in political circles, Wike is quoted as expressing deep dissatisfaction over what he described as his marginalisation within the APC-led federal government, despite his pivotal role in the party’s electoral success during the 2023 presidential election.
“I will tell the world who truly won the 2023 presidential election. Peter Obi should be ready to forgive me, because I will break the APC into pieces,” Wike reportedly declared, signalling a potential political storm if his grievances are ignored.
The former Rivers State governor further claimed that the APC’s rise to power was built on sacrifices made by Nigerians and that his own political influence and financial backing played a decisive role in Tinubu’s emergence as president.
“I founded the APC with the blood of Nigerians. I made Tinubu president using money from Rivers State. I am a big fish and I cannot go down easily,” he was quoted as saying.
Although the Presidency and APC leadership are yet to officially respond to the statement, the remarks—if confirmed—underscore growing cracks within the party, particularly among key power brokers who worked across party lines during the last general election.
Political analysts warn that an open confrontation between Tinubu and Wike could destabilize the fragile alliances that delivered victory to the APC, especially as the country grapples with economic reforms, insecurity, and internal party realignments ahead of future elections.
Observers note that Wike’s reference to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi adds another layer of intrigue, suggesting possible political realignments if tensions continue to escalate.
As Nigerians await clarity, one thing appears certain: all may not be well within the so-called political paradise of the ruling party
