JUST IN: Court Discharges Ibom Air Passenger

An Ikeja Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos, on Wednesday discharged Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of unruly behaviour and assault aboard an Ibom Air flight.

Presiding Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the case following the withdrawal of the five-count charge filed against her by the police.

The decision came after the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), announced that the charges would be dropped following consultations with key stakeholders in the aviation sector.

According to Keyamo, the resolution was reached after reviewing the incident, considering appeals from concerned individuals, and acknowledging the remorse shown by the parties involved. He added that Ibom Air had agreed to withdraw its complaint over the August 10 incident.

Emmanson, who was arraigned on Monday, had been granted bail of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum but was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet the conditions.

At Wednesday’s proceedings, prosecution counsel Oluwabunmi Adeitan informed the court of new developments necessitating the case’s withdrawal and formally applied to discontinue the matter—a request the court granted.
