Former Zamfara Central senator, Kabir Garba Marafa, has left the African Democratic Congress and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, citing unresolved legal disputes and concerns over the 2027 election timetable.
Marafa officially entered the NDC on Tuesday in Abuja, where he was welcomed by Seriake Dickson, the party’s national leader, alongside National Chairman Moses Cleopas and other party members.
His latest defection comes barely three weeks after he joined the ADC on April 8, 2026. Before that, he had resigned from the All Progressives Congress in August 2025 over internal disagreements.
Explaining his decision, Marafa said the ADC’s ongoing court cases create uncertainty that could affect aspirants ahead of the next general elections. He noted that the schedule set by Independent National Electoral Commission leaves little time for prolonged legal battles, making a stable political platform necessary.
He stressed that his exit was not driven by bad blood but by practical political calculations after consulting supporters and legal advisers. According to him, the NDC currently offers a safer and more reliable path toward 2027.
Marafa also promised to respect the party’s internal decisions, including whichever presidential candidate eventually emerges.
Welcoming him into the party, Dickson described Marafa as a strong political force whose arrival would strengthen the NDC in Zamfara State and across the North-West. He added that Marafa’s influence could also help mobilise support and tackle insecurity in the region.
