Edo Police restate ban on fireworks, warn parents and shop owners
The Edo State Police Command has warned parents, shop owners and residents that the use of fireworks remains prohibited under relevant laws and constitutes a public nuisance.
In a statement issued in Benin City on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, said anyone found selling, purchasing, or using fireworks would be arrested and prosecuted.

Yamu noted that the Command has observed a rising trend in the use of fireworks across the state, adding that the loud explosions can cause unnecessary panic, fear, false security alerts and avoidable emergencies.
He urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against buying or using fireworks, while shop owners were advised not to stock or sell the banned items.
Yamu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents throughout the festive season and beyond. He also encouraged the public to report individuals or groups involved in the sale or use of fireworks within their neighbourhoods.
