34 Apprehended In NDLEA Raid On Drug Dens In Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Kano division has arrested 34 suspects during a raid on several notorious drug dens in the state.
This operation is part of the agency’s proactive measures to ensure a safe and drug-free environment for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
It was gathered from a statement issued on Wednesday, NDLEA spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, revealed that the arrests took place on December 24, during a crackdown on various drug joints located in Fagge Area, Sani Abacha Stadium, Danagundi, and the notorious Filin Idi drug den.
The state Commander of the agency, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, disclosed that the operation led to the recovery of significant quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, “suck and die,” and Exol-5. Weapons, reportedly used by drug peddlers to threaten and attack officers, were also seized during the raid.
“We successfully dislodged several drug joints and recovered illicit substances from the drug dens. The drug users apprehended during the raid will receive necessary counseling and support to aid their recovery,” said Idris-Ahmad.
The commander emphasised that the raid and subsequent arrests reflected the NDLEA’s ongoing commitment to dismantling drug networks and curbing the distribution of harmful substances within Kano, especially during the festive period.
He further mentioned that investigations are ongoing, and those responsible for trafficking or abusing illicit substances will face legal charges. “Our efforts to eliminate the problem of drug abuse from the streets of Kano will persist, and we are committed to raising awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. The cooperation of the community is crucial in this battle,” added Idris-Ahmad.
On behalf of the NDLEA’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, the commander extended wishes for a peaceful Christmas celebration and a drug-free New Year festival to the people of Kano.
